Hello everybody!!! Now, it's turn for my fifth posting. Well, this time we must make a summary of one of the article from our text book. The name of the article is "Online Language Proficiency Assesment".
Nowadays, English Language is very important to everyone and we know that English has become as our international language for global communication. We can see that the online test has become a part of UKM academicians where they must improve their language proficiency. Moreover, the development of the online test that had been conducted for the purpose of the placement of English training modules is a better way to academians to improve their English language skills to enable them to teach more effectively using English as the medium of instruction. This article also share the experience at the School of Language Studies and Linguistics of UKM, which develop the English language training module for lecturers in UKM.
Nowadays, in this new era, UKM try very best to remain competetive in a borderless world and given more emphasize to the use of English for academic and proffesional purposes. So, the English language compentency test should profile the lecturers general English language proficiency and instructionsl language control in the target language. The online test can be accessed anywhere in the campus by everyone. The School of Language Studies and Linguistics sees language learning as a development for all learners.
UKM also has starategic plan to be more prepare in lifelong learning for all. There are two types of knowledge services in UKM. Firstly, the education ICT services that deal with the instructions and content offered in non-linear formats for various users. Secondly is the system which deal with staff and students database. Learning Care is a platform for everyone in UKM share effectively the use of web-based technology for intra- and interorganization learning process. However there are some limitations of the service and School of Language and Linguistics felt that it is the time for the development of an online test such as the test must be quick and easy to administor, score and intepret and should also be available on demand, and if possible automated for immediate viewing of scores. The test also propose to be administered in a controlled environment within a specified time frame.
